Scattergun
Webb Wilder's Scattergun, a new short comic film starring the Nashville based rock and
roll recording star premieres Saturday, September 30 for the first time anywhere. Webb and his band, The Beatnecks will perform live at 10 p.m. later in the evening at the Thirsty Hippo.
Filmed last August in the Hattiesburg area, Scattergun follows the electrifying artist/hillbilly detective's attempted rescue of his dim-witted nephew from piney-woods hoods.
A Hattiesburg native, Wilder is known for his six critically acclaimed nationally-released rootsrock albums, constant touring with his band, a four year stint as host of XM Satellite Radio's Cross Country and his previous short films The Saucer's Reign and Horror Hayride. Webb's most recent release is Tough it Out a live concert film recently released by Landslide Records on DVD.
The production of Scattergun began when Hattiesburg geologist and environmental activist Tommy Blanton reunited Wilder with his film collaborators R.S. Field and Steve Mims, all originally from the Hub City. The quartet's joint filmmaking venture is called Privateer Films. R.S. Field has produced over sixty record album projects, including Grammy nominated works by Sonny Landreth, John Mayall and the Blues Breakers and Buddy Guy. Steve Mims' awardwinning
films, commercials and music videos have been screened widely in festivals and on television and include the critically acclaimed Aunt Hallie, which was also filmed in Hattiesburg.
